A Lamp in the Dark

DVD #1 A Lamp in the Dark

A Lamp in the Dark is an exiting documentary that shows the intriguing history of the Bible. Enter into a world of saints and martyrs battling against spies, assassins and wolves in sheep's clothing.

Through the Middle Ages, the popes and the Inquisition forbade biblical translation, threatening imprisonment and death to those who disobeyed. Learn about the sacrifice of men like John Wycliffe, Martin Luther, William Tyndale, Myles Coverdal and others, who hazarded their lives to communicate the Bible in languages people could understand.

With the fall of Constantinople, ancient Greek manuscripts came into Europe, and with them, the "clear streams" of understanding that brought about the Protestant Reformation. But what is little known is that Rome launched a Counter Reformation with the intent of destroying all the works of the Reformers. Could this be a key to the "untold" history of the Bible? And is it possible that this ancient war on the Word of God continues to this day?

Tares Among the Wheat

DVD #2 Tares Among the Wheat

Tares Among the Wheat will likely challenge what most scholars believe about Bible history, and the origins of modern Textual Criticism.

In the 19th century, a revolution in biblical scholarship was prompted by the publication of a never-before-seen manuscript called Codex Sinaiticus. The work was allegedly "discovered" by a German scholar named Constantine von Tischendorf, who declared it to be the oldest Bible ever found. Tischendorf said he found the work in a rubbish basket at an ancient monastery in Egypt. While many in the academic world did not fully believe his story, they were willing to accept his claims about the antiquity of the codex.

Yet shortly after his discovery was published, a renowned Greek paleographer named Constantine Simonides came forward and declared that the manuscript was no ancient text at all, but had been created by him in 1840. The controversy surrounding these events is, perhaps, the most incredible untold chapter in Bible history. It involves Jesuits, the Pope, a high-minded German, a committee of Anglo Romanists, and a mysterious Greek patriot. It is a story that (while quite true and well documented) a vast majority of modern academics know noting about. Yet the subject matter dramatically impacts the world of biblical scholarship, even to this hour. Most of what today's scholars believe about manuscript evidence is based on the events of this ear, and the footnotes in your Bible are the proof of it.

6000 Years of the Bible

6000 Years of the Bible back

6000 Years of the Bible
by G.S. Wegener

Incomparably the best-seller of all time, with a total circulation that must run well over a thousand million copies, the Bible is the Book of Books to millions of men and women of different faiths and denominations. But how many of them have more than the most rudimentary knowledge of the Bible's history - of how it was written, how it spread across the world, and the amazing influence of its narrative? It is an exciting story, stretching across sixty centuries and many lands: Egypt of the Pharaohs, Canaan, the "land flowing with milk and honey", Luther's Germany, a deserted limestone cave by the Dead Sea . . .

Mr. Wegener tells the story with verve and skill and a feeling for history, marshalling an impressive list of characters: kings, high priests, and leaders of the people; Martin Luther, the monk who defied the Pope; little Mary Jones of Bala; Schapiro the forger; and many others. Two chapters of the Bible in English bring the story right up to date with the 'New English' translation of the New Testament. Most dramatic of all is the account of the last hundred years' discoveries and researches, right up to the sensational finding of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Mr. Wegener's text is accompanied by more than two hundred beautifully printed illustrations of the earliest Bibles, illuminated manuscripts, biblical sites and precious bindings which go to make up one of the most beautiful books about the most important book in the history of mankind.
